Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 55-year-old suspected drug kingpin, Shoremi Kayode, after raiding his residence in the Ipaja area of Lagos State.

The intelligence-led operation, conducted on August 14, 2026, was carried out at the suspect’s residence on Ogundare Street, Ipaja Estate, Lagos.

According to the NDLEA, operatives recovered 324 kilogrammes of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, from the premises. The illicit drug has an estimated street value of ₦972 million.

Two vehicles — a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota Corolla — were also recovered during the operation.

The agency described the suspect as a suspected drug kingpin and said the seizure was part of its ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting the activities of drug trafficking and distribution networks across the country.

The development was disclosed by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, as part of a series of operations conducted by the agency between August 7 and 14, 2026.

In a separate operation in Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided a warehouse within a residential compound in the Ago Palace area of Okota, recovering 3,776 cartons containing 377,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup, valued at more than ₦2.6 billion.

The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the agency’s officers for their efforts in reducing the supply and demand of illicit drugs.

The arrest of Kayode and the recovery of the Colorado are expected to form part of the agency’s continuing investigation into drug trafficking activities in Lagos.
