An Accord Party chieftain, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, who was shot dead in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been buried, as the state police command confirmed the recovery of another corpse at the scene of the incident.

Oyeyemi was reportedly killed during a clash at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife.

Following the incident, the police recovered another body within the motor park, bringing the number of corpses recovered in connection with the incident to two.

The police spokesperson in Osun State, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the second corpse had been deposited at a morgue, while the investigation had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Ojelabi also urged individuals mentioned in connection with the incident to report themselves to the nearest police station, assuring that anyone found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the remains of Oyeyemi were buried at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo, in accordance with traditional burial rites.

The deceased, who was associated with the Accord Party and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, had reportedly been involved in activities surrounding the leadership of the transport workers’ union in the state.

The shooting has also generated controversy over the circumstances surrounding the proposed emergence of Oyeyemi as the next Osun State NURTW chairman.

However, the Osun State Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, denied reports that he had summoned NURTW leaders to endorse Oyeyemi.

Oyedele explained that the union leaders had instead visited him at his residence to inform him of their decision and seek his support.

The police have continued investigations into the incident as efforts intensify to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting and identify all those responsible.
