The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has ordered the immediate removal of the state Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office.


The development was announced on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor.


Governor Nwifuru directed Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.


He was also instructed to transfer the responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.


The state government did not disclose the reason for the commissioner’s removal.


Mbam’s removal comes months after he was suspended by the governor in February 2026 alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Abara, over alleged dereliction of duty, slow project delivery and lapses in the Ministry of Works.


The governor later recalled Mbam in May 2026, allowing him to return to his position.


His latest removal marks another disciplinary action against him during his tenure as Commissioner for Works under Governor Nwifuru.


As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Government had not announced a replacement for Mbam.
