The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has enrolled 8,552 Nigerians living abroad through special passport intervention exercises conducted in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Qatar.


The figures were disclosed in a statement issued by the NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi.


The intervention exercises were organised to bring passport services closer to Nigerians in the diaspora and improve access to passport services.


The United Kingdom recorded the highest number, with 5,099 Nigerians enrolled in London and Manchester. The NIS said the UK exercise is still ongoing, with passport production and dispatch being carried out alongside the enrolment process.


In Canada, a total of 2,257 Nigerians were enrolled across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick.


Meanwhile, 751 Nigerians were enrolled in Qatar during an intervention exercise conducted between August 9 and 24, 2026.


The United States recorded 535 enrolments during an exercise held between September 7 and 15 across Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee.


According to the NIS, the exercises were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the affected countries.


The Service explained that the intervention exercises are separate from its regular passport service arrangements and were specifically designed to make passport services more accessible to Nigerians in the affected locations.


The NIS also advised Nigerians who were unable to secure appointment slots during the intervention exercises, as well as those who prefer not to visit passport centres or diplomatic missions physically, to make use of its Contactless Passport Application System.


The Immigration Service reiterated its commitment to providing responsive, accessible, timely and convenient passport services to Nigerians living in the diaspora.
