The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), the official campaign organisation of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over an alleged threat of political violence ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.


In a letter dated August 12, 2026 and addressed to diplomatic missions and international observers, including the United States Embassy, Canadian High Commission and Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, the campaign council drew attention to a video recording it said was attributed to Senator Francis Ade Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

According to the council, the video, which is currently in circulation, allegedly captures Fadahunsi directing his supporters to attack members of the Accord Party and declaring that people with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would not be allowed to vote during the forthcoming governorship election.


The council quoted a statement allegedly made in the recording as: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them.”

TICC described the alleged statement as “exceptionally grave,” stressing that, if authenticated, it would amount to an alleged public instruction to attack citizens based on their political affiliation.

The campaign council appealed to diplomatic missions and international election observers not to dismiss the development as ordinary campaign rhetoric.

It urged foreign missions to closely monitor the security situation in Osun State, particularly in Ilesa and the Osun East Senatorial District, and to engage relevant Nigerian authorities on the need to ensure that the election is conducted without violence, intimidation, voter suppression or threats to life.

The council also called on international election observers to document the alleged development as part of their assessment of the pre-election environment and maintain engagement with Nigerian institutions responsible for protecting the electoral process.

“The world must pay attention to Osun State and the August 15 election must be decided exclusively by the lawful votes of the people of Osun State, not by violence, intimidation or fear,” the council stated.

TICC further called on the President of Nigeria, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Inspector-General of Police and other relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations and take appropriate steps to protect the lives and democratic rights of Osun residents.

The campaign council reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, credible and democratic election and urged all political actors to operate within the confines of the law.

The letter was signed by Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., for the Imole Campaign Council, and listed copies of the alleged video recording, a transcript of the relevant portion of the recording and a formal petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police as annexures.
