The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami, Sami Gomo III, has overseen the dissolution of the National Executive Committee of the Zuru Emirate Development Society (ZEDS).
The decision was taken by the organisation’s Board of Trustees during a meeting chaired by the emir at his palace in Zuru Local Government Area of the state. The dissolved committee was led by retired Air Vice Marshal Bala Salau.
According to a statement signed by Abdullahi Idris Zuru, the decision was based on what the Emirate Council described as the leadership’s ineffectiveness and lukewarm attitude towards peace, unity, development and security in the emirate.
The council alleged that since assuming office in 2022, the dissolved leadership had made no meaningful contributions to areas including education, socio-economic development, infrastructure and security.
It also accused the executives of failing to maintain regular contact and consultations with community leaders and other stakeholders, particularly amid the emirate’s development and security challenges.
Following the dissolution, the Board of Trustees appointed Alhaji Yusuf Wade as the new National President of ZEDS and tasked the new leadership with repositioning the organisation.
The new administration is expected to focus on infrastructure development, monthly contributions from Zuru indigenes across the country and partnerships with mining companies through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
The statement said the organisation would pursue inclusive and non-partisan development across ethnic and religious communities in the emirate.
Wade is a former education administrator who retired as a director in the Ministry of Education. He also previously served as secretary to a 16-member committee of professors chaired by former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, on educational improvement.
The meeting was attended by prominent members of the Zuru Emirate Council, representatives of the five chiefdoms, local government chairmen, district heads and other notable indigenes, including Major-General (Senator) Muhammad Magoro, Lieutenant General Ishaya Bamaiyi and Justice Danlami Zama Senchi.
