The ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has generated fresh reactions online, with social media users turning their attention to the company’s reported employee salary structure alongside the investment opportunity.
The refinery launched its IPO on September 14, offering 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 per share, with the offer expected to raise up to ₦2.15 trillion if fully subscribed.
The proceeds are expected to support the refinery’s expansion plans, including increasing its refining capacity from 700,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2029.
The refinery reportedly has 4,106 employees, while figures circulating online indicate that 706 employees earn below ₦5.5 million annually, 1,619 earn between ₦5.5 million and ₦7.5 million, and 1,691 earn above ₦7.5 million.
The figures have sparked a wave of memes and online commentary, with some users joking about buying shares in the refinery while simultaneously scrutinising the reported earnings of its employees.
The discussion has also highlighted wider conversations around wages, employment opportunities and the growing participation of Nigerians in the refinery’s ownership through the IPO.
Meanwhile, prospective investors have been advised to consider their financial capacity and investment objectives before subscribing to the offer, which is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.
