Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as “Baba Alado of Mushin,” has died.

Faronbi, a prominent Lagos socialite, grassroots political leader and transport-sector figure, reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026.

His family confirmed his death, bringing an end to years of unverified reports and rumours about his demise.

He was buried later the same day in accordance with Islamic rites.

The funeral attracted prominent political figures and community leaders, including Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS), Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe, and Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Dr. Oluseyi Jakande.

Until his death, Faronbi was the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, the Babaloja of Aswani Market, and the Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom.

He was also known as an influential grassroots political figure and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while maintaining strong ties with the transport sector, particularly the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos.

Beyond politics and community leadership, Baba Alado was a well-known figure in Lagos social circles for more than four decades. His name featured prominently in the works and songs of leading Fuji and Fuji-pop musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Saheed Osupa and Pasuma.

His colourful personality and longstanding influence made him a familiar figure in Lagos popular culture, with local accounts also associating his street reputation with Gbenga Adeboye’s popular song, “Itu Baba Ita.”

News of his death has generated condolences across the political, transport and social communities in Lagos, particularly in Mushin, where he had built a significant grassroots following over several decades.

Baba Alado’s death marks the end of an era for a figure whose influence extended across community leadership, politics, markets, transport and Lagos social life.
