The political landscape of the Osun Central Senatorial District has taken a fresh turn ahead of the 2027 general elections, as Ibraheem Adekunle Luqman has moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to pursue his ambition for the Senate.

Luqman’s candidacy under the APM has now been formally reflected in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) final list of candidates for the 2027 Senatorial District elections, where he is listed as the party’s candidate for Osun Central.

His emergence under the APM follows a series of political developments within the PDP that reshaped the race for the senatorial ticket.

The journey dates back to the period when Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, popularly known as Ajagunnla, resigned from the PDP in mid-2025. His departure created a political opening within the party and provided Luqman an opportunity to pursue the PDP senatorial ticket for Osun Central.

Luqman subsequently became a prominent contender for the PDP ticket as he continued to build his political structure and campaign for the senatorial seat.

However, the political calculation changed when Fadeyi made a dramatic return to the PDP after a stint with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fadeyi had initially left the PDP and moved to the APC, where he sought to continue his political career. His return to the PDP came after he was reportedly unable to secure the APC's ticket to seek re-election, triggering another twist in the race for Osun Central.

His return brought him into direct competition with Luqman for the PDP senatorial ticket.

The ensuing contest eventually ended in Fadeyi securing the PDP ticket, leaving Luqman with the difficult decision of either abandoning his senatorial ambition or seeking another political platform.

Luqman subsequently opted for the latter, leaving the PDP and joining the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to continue his bid for the Osun Central Senate seat.

The move has now received official confirmation through INEC's final list, which places Ibraheem Adekunle Luqman at number seven among the candidates contesting the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 election.

His inclusion on the final list effectively confirms that Luqman remains in the 2027 senatorial contest despite losing the PDP ticket to Fadeyi.
