OSOGBO, Osun State — Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunnla has finally secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to contest the Osun Central Senatorial District election in 2027, according to political commentator Diran Odeyemi.

Odeyemi made the claim during an interview on the Morning Spring programme of Western Spring Television on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, while discussing the emerging political landscape ahead of the 2027 senatorial contest.

According to him, Ajagunnla has now emerged as the PDP candidate, positioning him for another bid for the Osun Central Senate seat.

Ajagunnla's political journey towards the 2027 contest has been marked by movements between political camps and an intense struggle for the PDP senatorial ticket.

In the middle of 2025, Ajagunnla defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly in an effort to secure the party's platform for a second term.

However, after the anticipated political arrangement did not materialise, Ajagunnla made a dramatic return to the PDP.

His return subsequently intensified the contest for the PDP senatorial ticket, particularly between him and Hon. Ibraheem Adekunle, as both camps sought the party's endorsement ahead of the election.

The development has added another layer to the political contest in Osun Central, where several political interests are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 election.

Odeyemi's declaration on the Morning Spring programme is coming amid growing attention to the emerging candidates and political alignments within the senatorial district.

However, the formal status of any candidate ultimately depends on the outcome of the party's officially recognised nomination process and relevant electoral procedures.
