IBADAN — A reported attempt by police officers to arrest Isese advocate Abdulazeez Adegbola, popularly known as Tani Olohun, was resisted by residents in Ibadan on Tuesday, with Yoruba activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, reportedly intervening.

The reported arrest attempt is linked to an ongoing case involving Tani Olohun over a social media video allegedly considered offensive to an Islamic prayer. The case was reportedly instituted by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation.

Videos circulating on social media showed a tense scene as police officers attempted to take Tani Olohun into custody. Residents reportedly gathered at the scene and resisted the move, amid concerns that he could be taken to Ilorin, Kwara State, in connection with the case.

Igboho was subsequently reported to have arrived at the scene and joined the resistance, helping to prevent the officers from taking Tani Olohun away. The development attracted significant attention, particularly because of the religious dimension of the case and the growing concern among supporters over the circumstances surrounding the proposed arrest.

Earlier reports had alleged that armed men believed to have travelled from Ilorin attempted to gain access to Tani Olohun’s residence in Ibadan in the early hours of Tuesday. However, details surrounding the operation, including the identities and authority of those involved, remain unclear.
