OSOGBO - The Osun State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to strategic locations in Osogbo following a series of cult-related incidents that left two persons dead and others injured.
The Command, in a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, said the recent incidents occurred around the Owo-Eba and Arowomole areas of the Osun State capital.
According to the Police, a cult clash was recorded around Owo-Eba on October 2, during which two persons identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, also known as “OSHA,” were shot dead. Several other persons reportedly sustained gunshot injuries.
The Police also disclosed that suspected cultists invaded the Arowomole area on October 4, where one Rasak Wahab, popularly known as “Ojo Iku,” was shot.
Wahab was immediately evacuated to a hospital and is currently responding to treatment, according to the Command.
Following the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, psc(+), mnips, directed all tactical teams to relocate to the Oke-Baale area and remain there until normalcy is fully restored.
The tactical teams have also been mandated to conduct intelligence-led raids and operations targeting suspected cult members, criminal hideouts and other locations linked to criminal activities.
The Command said the affected cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
The Commissioner further directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders to intensify patrols, gather actionable intelligence and maintain sustained security presence around identified flashpoints across Osogbo.
The Police assured residents that the security situation remains under control and urged them to continue with their lawful activities without fear.
The Command, however, warned cult groups, their members, sponsors and sympathisers that anyone found involved in cult-related violence, shootings or other criminal activities would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police also called on parents, community leaders and members of the public to provide timely and credible information on suspicious movements, cult gatherings, criminal hideouts and other activities capable of threatening public peace.
Residents were equally advised to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
