The Osun State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media and aired by Arise News, which purportedly showed policemen in the state running away from a drone.

The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the footage was not from a police operation but from a Yoruba movie production.

According to the police, the video was taken from Omije Fun Omije Part 2, a Yoruba film reportedly shot in May 2026.

The Command explained that at approximately 39 minutes and eight seconds into the movie, a police patrol vehicle was used as part of the scene. An actor dressed in police uniform was allegedly left momentarily outside a moving van, prompting him to run after the vehicle before boarding it.

The police said a bystander who was not part of the film crew recorded the scene and subsequently posted it online with a misleading caption suggesting that police officers were fleeing from a drone.

It added that the drone visible in the footage was the equipment used by the movie production team to film the scene and was not involved in any operational pursuit of police officers.

The Command consequently rejected the narrative that serving police officers had “run away” from a drone, describing the claim as misleading and damaging to the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

The police also urged media organisations and other platforms sharing the footage to exercise greater caution and verify the authenticity and context of viral materials before publication.

The Command specifically called on Arise News and others circulating the video to retract the caption and narrative, publish a correction clarifying that the footage was from a movie production, and desist from presenting staged or unrelated footage as evidence of police cowardice or misconduct.

The statement stressed that investigative journalism requires proper verification, noting that presenting out-of-context footage with a false explanation could unfairly damage the reputation of a security institution.

The Osun Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to lawful and professional policing, saying it remained open to factual reporting but would not accept what it described as deliberate distortion of images, videos or media reports aimed at tarnishing its reputation.
