The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive electoral materials to all 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Osun State ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.


The distribution of sensitive materials, including ballot papers and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, commenced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) facility in Osogbo.


The exercise is being conducted under the supervision of senior INEC officials, political party representatives and accredited election observers, with measures put in place to promote transparency and accountability in the handling of the materials.


INEC also disclosed that 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected by registered voters across the state, representing 81.50 per cent of the total number of registered voters.


Meanwhile, heightened security arrangements have been put in place across the state ahead of the election. A total of 25,310 security personnel have reportedly been deployed to strategic locations and identified flashpoints to maintain law and order before, during and after the poll.


Following the distribution at the state level, election officials are expected to move the materials to Registration Area Centres (RACs), wards and other designated locations ahead of Saturday’s voting.


The development marks a major stage in preparations for the Osun governorship election, with stakeholders expected to ensure that the process is conducted peacefully, transparently and in accordance with electoral guidelines.
