The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed separate petitions challenging the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo.
The petitions were reportedly filed at the last minute before the expiration of the tribunal’s deadline for filing election petitions, bringing a fresh legal dimension to the outcome of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were listed as respondents.
The second petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Peoples Democratic Party candidate Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola. The petition names Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party as respondents.
The development became public on Monday, September 7, 2026, after the tribunal displayed the two petitions on its notice board.
The tribunal secretary, Pefe Belemore, reportedly confirmed that petitions challenging the election outcome had been received and that the relevant notices had been displayed.
The petitions come three weeks after INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the governorship election.
Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, secured 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji of the APC, who polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
With the petitions now filed, the matter is expected to proceed through the statutory election petition process, with the petitioners required to establish the grounds upon which they are challenging the election and the respondents given the opportunity to defend the result declared by INEC.
The latest development has therefore opened a new chapter in the political contest over the Osun governorship, with attention now shifting from the ballot box to the tribunal.
