The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of vandalising and stealing equipment from a telecommunications mast in the state.

The suspect, identified as Nweke Wisdom from Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested on Thursday at about 7:20 a.m. at Esther Obiakor Estate, Agu-Awka, following a distress call about the presence of a suspected vandal at a telecommunications mast.

According to the NSCDC, operatives apprehended the suspect with items allegedly removed from the mast installation, including DC and armoured cables.

The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the NSCDC in Anambra, Edwin Okadigbo, said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly specialised in vandalising telecommunications masts and stealing valuable equipment from them.

The suspect has reportedly made what the Corps described as useful confessions and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, warning individuals involved in vandalism to desist from the act.

The Corps also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that public cooperation is important in protecting critical infrastructure and improving security across Anambra State.
