LAGOS - A man has reportedly been caught in Apapa, Lagos State, after allegedly packaging old and damaged car tyres in nylon bags and attempting to use them to obtain cash from a Point of Sale (POS) operator under false pretences.

According to reports, the suspect visited a POS outlet in Apapa, pretending to carry out a cash withdrawal. However, after claiming that his bank transfer had failed, he allegedly offered to leave the supposedly new tyres with the operator in exchange for cash.

The man reportedly claimed he was in a hurry and wanted the POS operator to give him money in exchange for the tyres.

However, the unusual transaction reportedly raised suspicions during negotiations, prompting nearby residents to intervene and apprehend him.

The tyres, which were allegedly presented as new, were reportedly discovered to be old and damaged.

The incident highlights the need for POS operators and members of the public to remain vigilant against suspected fraudulent schemes, particularly transactions involving goods offered in exchange for cash.

Further details about the suspect's identity and whether he has been handed over to security operatives remain unclear.
