Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
Ogunwuyi announced his resignation in a letter dated October 12, 2026, addressed to Governor Makinde. The Ogbomoso-born politician, however, did not disclose the reason for his decision.
In the resignation letter, Ogunwuyi described his service to the Oyo State Government as a great honour, expressing satisfaction with his role in the administration.
He wrote that it was “deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration.”
The former Chief of Staff also reaffirmed his loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, despite his decision to leave the government position.
His resignation comes amid reports of other political aides leaving the Makinde administration in recent months. However, Ogunwuyi’s next political move remains unclear, as he has yet to publicly announce his plans following his departure.
Before his appointment as Chief of Staff in July 2021, Ogunwuyi served as Director-General of the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPPPA).
He also has legislative experience, having served in both the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
Ogunwuyi was reappointed as Chief of Staff in 2023 and remained a key member of Governor Makinde’s administration until his resignation.
As of the time of filing this report, no official explanation had been given for his decision to step down.
