The Osun State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with an alleged assault that left a woman injured in Iwo, Osun State.


The Command, in a press release dated September 15, 2026, also dismissed claims circulating on social media that the police failed to act after the incident was reported at the Iwo Divisional Police Station.


According to the police, a case of assault occasioning harm was reported at the Iwo Division by Aiyetimiyi Oluwakemi against Ajani Saheed and was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.


The Command said preliminary investigation revealed an ongoing dispute between two factions of commercial motorcycle riders at Iri-Eru Junction in Iwo. The two groups, according to the police, are allegedly backed by Ajani Saheed, who owns a hotel at the junction, and Ibironke Arowolo, who owns a beer parlour in the same area.


The police explained that the two factions had reportedly been involved in disputes over customers for some time, with previous disagreements allegedly being settled by the chairman of the okada riders.

The Command said the latest incident resurfaced on September 6, 2026, during an attempt to resolve the dispute between the riders. A fight reportedly broke out between Ajani Saheed and Samuel Ayetimiyi, during which Samuel allegedly sustained a head injury after being struck with a broken bottle.


The police stated that after supporters of Ajani Saheed noticed his injury, Sodiq Yusuf and Olagoke Kolawole, among others, allegedly invaded Ibironke Arowolo’s shop and assaulted her, inflicting injuries to her face and other parts of her body.


She was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the police.


The Command further stated that Doris Ayetimiyi, identified as Ibironke Arowolo’s biological daughter, allegedly witnessed her mother being beaten and joined some of her mother’s customers in confronting Ajani Saheed and others involved in the altercation.


Following the incident, the police said five suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged assault and related events.


The suspects were identified as Sodiq Yusuf, 36; Olagoke Kolawole, 35; Ajani Saheed, 41; Samuel Ayetimiyi, 16; and Doris Ayetimiyi, 19.


The police said all five suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.


The Command, therefore, maintained that the account circulated by the human rights activist, Nurudeen Ibrahim, and Mrs Ibironke Aromole, accusing the police of inaction, did not accurately reflect the facts of the case.
