President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the successful rescue of 21 Nigerians, including 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State last week.

The President disclosed that the victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued on Monday afternoon following a coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operation conducted by security agencies.

The operation involved personnel of the military, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.

According to Tinubu, the victims were rescued from the kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

He said the rescued corps members and other abductees are currently receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.

While expressing delight over their safe recovery, the President commended the security personnel involved in the operation for their courage and commitment.

Tinubu said security forces had continued their pursuit of the fleeing kidnappers, directing the agencies to sustain pressure on criminal elements responsible for the abduction.

He warned that those behind the crime, as well as anyone who aided or facilitated the operation, would face the full weight of the law.

The President also assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to creating an environment where citizens could travel across the country without fear.

He expressed sympathy with the families and loved ones of the abductees, commending them for their understanding and patience throughout the ordeal.

Tinubu further assured parents and families of NYSC members that his administration would continue to prioritise the safety of corps members and other Nigerians.

He concluded by commending the men and women of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies for their service to the country.
